Making music lesson plans is one of the most important tasks that are required of all music teachers. You need to have a lot of experience to be able to make a comprehensive and achievable session plan. When you start out to make a lesson plan, you must decide at first the objectives of the course. Decide what lessons are important, and what has to be covered comprehensively. There are a great many topics, and it is best that you don’t include all of them, because more than quantity, what is really important is quality. That is, how much the students can hope to learn from the lessons over a period of time. You must give sufficient lessons and classes for practice and tests so that the students understand each topic thoroughly.
In order to make your music lessons more interesting, ensure that you put in certain classes for discussion. In these classes, encourage students to bring in tit-bits about what they can relate from a particular chapter in the music that they listen to daily. You can also ask them to interview their parents and relatives so that they can understand better. It will make the lessons come more alive for them. Include a class where they can each play their favourite songs and relate it to the lessons that you have taught them.
